Audi 4000 Engine

Please complete the following fields to receive bids from vendors with a Audi 4000 Engine for sale!

The Audi 4000, known overseas as the Audi 80/90, was a compact executive car sold by the German manufacturer from 1980 to 1987. Throughout its production, the Audi 4000 was considered the smaller stable mate of the Audi 100 and, later on, the innovative 5000 executive sedan. The later 4000 CS Quattro offered excellent performance and handling, thanks in large part to its innovative all-wheel drive system and mandatory five-speed manual transmission.

The Audi 4000 utilized several four-cylinder and five-cylinder engines throughout its life, but many of these engines were not made available to U.S. buyers. Upon its introduction to the U.S. market, the Audi 4000 received a 1.6-liter four-cylinder motor rated at 100 horsepower. In later years, the 4000 relied on a 1.8-liter SOHC four-cylinder engine with CIS fuel injection. The 1.8-liter engine was capable of producing 102 horsepower and 126 pound-feet of torque.

The 4000’s mid-cycle refresh for 1984 also brought with it the introduction of the 4000 CS Quattro. The all-wheel drive executive sedan received its motivation from a 2.2-liter SOHC inline five-cylinder engine fitted with CIS-E fuel injection. Featuring a cast iron block and aluminum alloy cylinder head, the 2.2-liter engine produced 115 horsepower and 126 pound-feet of torque. A turbocharged variant of the 4000 CS Quattro’s 2.2-liter engine, codenamed JT, was also used in the Audi Coupe and Quattro Coupe (known as the Ur-Quattro to enthusiasts).

As noted above, the Audi 4000’s four-cylinder and five-cylinder offerings could also be found under the hood of other vehicles throughout the Volkswagen Group’s Audi and Volkswagen lineup. This makes finding a used engine somewhat easier as a result.
