They Hyundai Entourage was marketed under the name of the Hyundai Motor Company to the North American markets during 2007 and 2008. The vehicle saw its best sales in America during its first year of production. The minivan type vehicle is manufactured in Korea by Kia Motors. The Entourage is identical to the Kia Sedona of the same years.
Because of the rather brief product life of just two model years, the engine selections for the Hyundai Entourage are limited to a single engine.
The 3.8-liter V-6 engine generated about 250 horsepower and was paired to a five-speed automatic transmission. This produced an estimated EPA fuel economy of 18 miles per gallon in the city and 25 mpg on the open highway. The vehicle had a combined fuel economy rating of 21 mpg.
The Entourage utilized an American built engine of a Hyundai design known as the Lambda. This engine is built of aluminum making it one of the lightest engines and offering a high power to weight ratio. Engines of the same design group were utilized by Hyundai and Kia in a number of vehicles including sports cars and minivans. The engine’s design allowed it to be used in both front- and rear-wheel drive configurations.
The Hyundai Entourage offered pretty much all the standard features of a minivan class vehicle. The vehicle featured a transverse mounted front engine powering a front-wheel drive configuration. The basic model seated seven people. The vehicle offered luxury amenities including leather upholstery, power doors, a multi-disk CD player and sunroof.
The vehicle earned some top safety ratings including the five-star rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and honors from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. It also picked up awards as a family vehicle from Parents magazine. The Hyundai Entourage is also noted to be among the cheapest vehicles to insure based on its impressive safety features and the fact it is often bought by experienced drivers with families.
The announcement to discontinue the Hyundai Entourage came in the spring of 2009 and effected the 2010 model year. Kia Motors continued production of the Kia Sedona with some design and performance updates.
