Buick Riviera engine started out with cast iron V8’s that could dominate most street cars. The GS version, the 430 V8 had high horsepower and lots of low end torque. The new Riviera engines that were used ended up being a toned down version as a result of pressure on the manufacturer’s to increase fuel economy.

The later produced Riviera engine was the same engine GM used in many of it’s common cars with no real distinguishing spec’s as far as horsepower and performance are concerned. The final days of the Rivera were brief but it did get the 3.8 liter supercharged engine but did nothing to help revive the brand.
