The Ford Edge first production was 2007-2010. Ford offered a 3.5 liter V6 Duratec engine that produced 265 hp and 250 lb-ft of torque. This was the only engine size offered for the 2007-2008 models. Ford however offered an oil cooler as an extra for the Edge which made a difference in mounting on the block. This engine was used in the Ford Taurus, also the Edge shared the same platform as a Mazda6, Mazda CX-9, Ford Fusion, and Lincoln MKZ sedan. The Edge has been rebadged for the Lincoln MKX, although looks different on the outside from the Ford Explorer uses many of the same components. The only transmission offered is a 6 speed automatic 6F type.

From 2009-2011 the engine lineup received some changes. Now the interchange of the engine gets interesting. The 3.5 liter engine without a factory cooler fits the Edge, Ford Flex, Ford Taurus and Ford Fusion. If the engine has a cooler from the factory, there are 2 types of mounting for the block. The first type uses 1 oil adaptor mounting bolt, this engine will only fit a 2008-2009 Ford Edge and a Lincoln MKX. However, if the engine has a factory cooler that is mounted with 3 bolts instead of 1 mounting bolt it fits a Ford Edge to 2001, A ford Flex to 2011 and the Lincoln MKX to 2011.

The 2011-2012 Edge gets a redesigned 3.5 liter Duratec and now a larger 3.7 liter the produces 305 hp. That is a really big jump in performance and has become a stand issue engine for the Lincoln MKX. In 2012 the Edge got the all-new 2.0 Ecoboost engine. This engine is designed with economy and performance in mind using some of Fords newest and best technology. The is a 4 cylinder 2.0 turbocharged engine that produces 240 hp. As a note the Ford Duratec 3.5 liter engine was voted 1 of the top 10 automobile engines in the world.
