Mini is a group owned by BMW since 1994 and the first generation Cooper was introduced in 1969. The first generation vehicle was powered by a 1.4 liter l4 Tritec engine which was replaced by a 1.6 liter l4 petrol version. The Mini Cooper shares its engine and platform with the Mini Clubman, Countryman and Roadster.
