The Acura SLX was au upgraded and re-badged Isuzu Trooper sold by the Acura division of Honda from 1995 to 1999, as 1996 to 1999 year models. Sold only in the United States, the SLX was later replaced by the Honda Odyssey which was based on the Acura MDX. With only two engine options available, finding used SLX engines for sale on the internet is a snap. A re-designed 3.5-liter dual-overhead-cam V6 engine rated at 215 horsepower replaced the prior 3.2-liter version. Acura SLX sales were sluggish and the SLX remained unchanged for 1999. Acura abandoned the vehicle after the 1999 model year. A completely different Acura sport-utility vehicle, called MD-X, was later scheduled for introduction as a 2001 model.

In 1998 the Acura SLX received revised front-end styling and drivetrain changes that were used on the Isuzu Trooper. A new feature “Torque on demand” 4-wheel-drive became standard, which allowed switching between 2WD and 4WD High “on the fly” using a dashboard button instead of a lever. The 4-wheel-drive, 5-passenger wagon had four side doors and dual swing-out rear doors (split 70/30). Some of the SLX rivals included the GMC Yukon and Lincoln Navigator, as well as the lower-cost Chevy Tahoe and Ford Expedition
Most of these engines used were also shared with each of the J series family. The 3.2 Liter engine is called the J32A1; it is of the SOHC (single overhead camshaft) VTEC design. Governed 3 dissimilar J32 models were made, J32A1, J32A2 and J32A3. All use the famous Honda VTEC (Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control) system.
Currently the J35 engine has 3.5 Liter of capacity. There are an astounding 12 editions of these engines. The J35A1 was used from 1998 to 1999. FYI; the exact motor was utilized by G.M. in the 2004-2007 Saturn Vue.
While the vehicle is no longer manufactured, the engines live on. Honda and several other manufacturers [GM] make wide use of both series of engines in other models of cars, meaning that there is an abundance of replacement engines available. What you need to do is decide on a company when shopping for a used SLX engine and get your truck back on the road.
