Buick built the Regal for many years offering all types of engines for buyers to choose from. In the earliest days a large Buick 350 ci V8 engine was used. It was a good engine but had a short life compared to some of the other engines GM has built. Here is a list of different engine offered in the later model Regals not not the newest GM has.

196 cu in (3.2 L) Buick V6 231 cu in (3.8 L) Buick V6 252 cu in (4.1 L) Buick V6 260 cu in (4.3 L) Oldsmobile Diesel V6 265 cu in (4.3 L) Pontiac V8 301 cu in (4.9 L) Pontiac V8 305 cu in (5.0 L) Chevy V8 307 cu in (5.0 L) Oldsmobile V8 350 cu in (5.7 L) Oldsmobile Diesel V8

GM appeared to have thrown the kitchen sink at this car. The variety of engines available to the buyer was confusing but was done to make the vehicle more affordable to some, accommodate those that wanted a diesel vehicle and also those who wanted the power of a V8 engine.

Here is a list of more engines available from Buick for the Regal:

2.0 L LDK I4 (turbo gasoline) 2.0 L LHU I4 (turbo gasoline) 2.0 L LTG I4 (turbo gasoline) 2.4 L LAF I4 (gasoline) 2.4 L LEA I4 (gasoline) 2.4 L LUK I4 (gasoline) 3.6 L LFX V6(gasoline) (GNX only)
