Cadillac got into the economy car market with the Cadillac Cimarron. It was a compact car and used cheap engines with little power and good fuel economy. The Cimarron was the same platform as the Pontiac J2000, Pontiac Sunbird and CHevy Cavalier.Cadillac never should have made this move at this time because the market was not ready for it and the car failed miserably.
The engines used in the Cimarron were 2 different 4 cylinder engines and also a 6 cylinder engine. The base engine was the 1.8 OHC aluminum engine. The next step up when the 1.8 liter was discontinued is the 2.0 liter engine. The largest engine available was the 2.8 liter V6 motor. The engine produced the most horsepower and torque.
