The Chevy Silverado pickup trucks were produced by Chevrolet division of General Motors from 1998, Chevy Silverado 3500 crew cab was produced only in 2003. Though it had little difference in mechanical and engine options, it had dual rear wheels and was specially designed for towing. It was able to tow 16,700 pounds and it could carry a load of 5,511 pounds. Dodge Ram 3500 and Ford F-350 were its competitors.
These trucks were equipped with either 6.0 liter Vortec 6000 motors or a Vortec 8.1 liter engine. A used Silverado 3500HD engine for sale could be found without too much work at ASAP Motors. When it comes to transmission for the 6.0 liter V8 it was a manual 4 speed transmission. However, optional automatic transmission was also available. The 8.1 liter V8 gasoline engines and the diesel motors were available with either six speed manual transmission or 5-speed automatic transmission. This was improved to 6-speed transmission in the year 2006.
This crew cab is specially designed for towing purposes but still, it provides a fairly comfortable ride also. When it comes to pulling loads all three motors are very efficient but the updated version of diesel V8 engine is undoubtedly the champion.
The fuel tank of the 2012 version of Silverado 3500 could accommodate 36 gallons of fuel. With its 6.6 liter Duramax engine, it could run up to 680 miles on the highway without refilling. It could now tow up to 23,000 pounds. When it comes to carrying loads it could manage up to 7215 pounds. While carrying such loads it provides reasonable acceleration also.
