Ford Taurus’s first generation model 1986 came into fruition as an inline four cylinder engine accompanied by automatic or manual transmission. The flagship model carries a 290-horse power 3.5-liter direct injection V6 engine along with 6-speed automatic transmission and SelectShift gear control. On front-wheel drive models, a 237-horse power 2.0-liter EcoBoost turbo four-cylinder engine is optional on front-wheel drive models.
The initial launch of the Taurus was offered in the following models: the MT-5, the L, the GL, and the LX. Both the L and MT-5 models were outfitted with 90 hr, 2.5 liter HSc motor engines. A revamped second generation model of the Taurus used similar mechanical applications and the face-lift from the first generation Taurus was in production from 1992 to 1995. The Taurus pushed the Buick Century, Oldsmobile 88 and the Cadillac Seville back in sales.
Ford’s new release for third generation model 1996 was a Taurus G Sedan and Taurus GL with a 3 lr Vulcan V6 engine fitted with 145 hp and 4-speed AX4S automatic transmission. The Taurus LX was packaged with a 3 lr DOHC Duratec 30 V6 engine 200 hp, and 4-speed AX4N automatic transmission.
The fourth generation models designed for 2000-2007 were the LX, SE, SES, and LX. During 2002-2004, the SES was upgraded was offered with a Duratec engine standard. Ford quickly changed its repertoire to include SUVs. By 2007, Fusion and Five Hundred sedans were introduced, while the Taurus wagon was replaced with the Freestyle crossover SUV. Later, the Dearborn, Michigan based company introduced the 2008 Taurus and the 2008 Taurus X in 2007.
Next in line was the fifth generation Taurus, from 2008-2009, which saw the emergence of SE, SEL, and Taurus Limited in the wake of heightened sales of Toyota Camry and Honda Accord in 1990.
