Mitsubishi Precis was a car manufactured by Hyundai Corporation of South Korea. It was also called the Hyundai Pony, Hyundai Presto and Hyundai Excel. While it was the first front wheel driven car manufactured by Hyundai Corporation its manufacture continued from 1985 to 1994. Though Hyundai Pony which was a rear wheel driven car that was replaced by Precis, still there were some markets where this car also was sold under the Pony name. Ford Escort and Toyota Tercel were among its many competitors.



Precis was available with three and five door hatchback models. It was the leader in the Mitsubishi range on price. Placed below Mirage on price it was discontinued in 1992. It had a 1.5 liter 4 cylinder engine in the model that was built between 1985 and 1989 and were carbureted. Cars that were built after 1989 also had 1.5 liter engines but they were more powerful because Mitsubishi went to a fuel injected design and they could provide 81 horse powers.

Therefore, they were badged 1.5i in order to show that they were equipped with fuel injection engines that gave more comfortable rides and better power. However, they were there only for one year as the car was discontinued in 1992.
