The Nissan Armada 5.6-liter V-8 engine is a very well built engine that produces 317 horsepower with 385- lb-ft of torque. This engine was built to compete with the Chevy Silverado 5.3-liter V-8 engine and the Ford F-150 5.4-liter engine. The Armada is the largest SUV Nissan manufactures and finds itself up against the famous Chevy Tahoe followed by the Ford Expedition. The Armada replaced the Pathfinder and had many improvements over the years.

An improvement to the drivetrain of the Armada is the addition of a 5-speed automatic transmission. Many of the automakers left the old 4-speed automatic transmission behind for several reasons. A 5 speed transmission allows for better take off, improved fuel economy and over performance. The reason behind this is the 5 speed type has a lower 1st gear, this gives more pulling power from a dead stop and also gets the vehicle to speed more quickly. After running through the gear set, when it lands in 5th gear the ratio is better than a 4 speed allowing fewer RPM’s when driving on the highway. That mean better fuel economy. However, when the vehicle is in 5th gear, hardly any increase in power being applied causes an almost immediate shift down to 4th. This happens because 5th is so high it could cause too much strain on the gears and it would case failure.

The current generation of the Armada uses the Endurance 5.6-liter V-8 engine, It is the same engine used in the Nissan Titan and the Infiniti QX 80. This redesigned engine puts out almost 400 horsepower and it now connected to a new 7-speed transmission. The combination of these 2 improvements really helps the Armada come up against the large American automakers in the big SUV market. Even though things are tight out there, buyers still demand power and performance.
